About the Task Force...
The Expansion of Fort G. Meade Expansion Task Force was established by Executive Order on April 20, 2006. The Howard County Executive appointed 26 individuals to serve as voting members and 11 Ex-officio members. The purpose of the task force is to help Howard County identify the impacts and opportunities associated with the growth at Fort Meade.
Included in the scope of responsibilities the Executive has ordered the group’s members to undertake the following:
- Identify the opportunities and challenges that may result from the increased activities at Fort Meade;
- Identify the infrastructure needs required to support the increased activities;
- Evaluate the ability of the County to meet the challenges of BRAC;
- Make recommendations to the County Executive for appropriate ways to meet the challenges of BRAC, while continuing the high quality of life enjoyed by Howard County citizens.
The Fort Meade Expansion Management Task Force membership is composed of a diverse and far-reaching representation of community and business interests and organizations. In addition, and as a cooperative coordination measure, two members of Anne Arundel County Government are also included in the membership, just as Howard County Government is afforded representation on a parallel group established in Anne Arundel County.
In response to increased county and regional efforts, the Task Force has grown to nearly 150 members on 11 committees. The current organizational structure includes 7 functional committees (Housing, Education, Transportation, Infrastructure, Health & Human Services, and Workforce Development, Public Safety), a Lessons Learned Committee, Executive Committee, Plans & Analysis Committee, and Resource Partners Committee. Please click here to see a current roster of Task Force members.
The Ft. Meade Expansion Management Task Force is chaired by Executive Director Kent Menser. Retained as a consultant to report directly to the County Executive, Mr. Menser is a resident of Columbia who brings an extensive level of both private business and military experience to his position. Mr. Menser is also Deputy Director of the Fort Meade BRAC Region.
