WORKSITE EVENTS

The Wellness Works program offers a variety of worksite activities and programs to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle. Visit this website frequently for the latest schedule. If you need to adjust your work schedule to be able to participate in a class/event, please check with your supervisor first. Unless otherwise noted, these programs are open to employees of Howard County Government and specified allied agencies.

Take a tour of the Fitness Center at the George Howard Building and get a refresher on how to properly use the equipment. Signed waivers required.

Living Well...Take Charge of Your Health Workshop

This six-week program is modeled after the Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop from Stanford University. Participants meet once a week for two and a half hours to learn skills to better manage their symptoms and get the most out of their lives. The workshop is led by two trained leaders who have or care for people with chronic conditions.

  • The Living Well workshop is for people with chronic conditions, such as arthritis, diabetes, stroke, heart or lung disease.
  • You will learn techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation; exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance; appropriate use of medications; how to communicate effectively with family, friends, and health professionals; tips for healthy eating; and how to evaluate new treatments.
  • Series of six, free classes at the Gateway Building, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive (Room 303).
  • Dates & Times to be determined based on participant interest.
